Harvey began playing drums at the age of 10. He played drums in all available bands through elementary and high school. During his college years he changed from being a "Drummer" to being a "Percussionist" by learning timpani and mallet percussion - xylophone, marimba, bells, etc. He graduated from Trenton State College with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Performance.
Harvey has played in all types of bands and ensembles over the years including rock, blues, country, jazz, big band, percussion ensembles, pit orchestras for musicals, concert bands and symphonies playing drums, percussion, keyboards and rhythm guitar. He also composes and arranges music for percussion.
Harvey has been teaching private music lessons for over 35 years to students of all ages. He tailors the lessons to provide studies to help the students improve in their instrument while incorporating elements of personal interest in styles or songs that help make the lessons more enjoyable and fun.
